Life is getting very busy!

Beautiful Autumn morning
Jen's birthday cupcakes

David is getting really busy with lots of calls to fit high speed internet. He's driving long distances everyday as the calls can be very remote.
I started my official hours working at the daycare last week then the girl I job share with handed her notice in so I got a lot more hours! That would have been fine except 'Cute as a cupcake' is taking off big time. I am still waiting to do the farmers market each week but since I passed the hygiene course I can trade. I was busy baking for the Christmas market in Fredericton when I got a phonecall asking me to help a friend on her stall in 2 weeks time in Halifax, Nova Scotia at a huge Christmas market. I am busy making 175 Christmas cakes of varying sizes all with marzipan and icing, 50+ slabs of sticky gingerbread and 120+ fruit scones. It's a 3 day market from 10am-9pm daily!
I went on a ladies retreat last weekend with 50+ ladies from church to Beulah, near St John. It was a fantastic couple of days with good company, food, surroundings and speakers. Tomorrow I'm on another retreat but with my work colleagues,we're staying in a cottage for the night which should be fun.
Once my cakes are at the finished stage I take photos to show you all.
The weather is often frosty in the morning but can still get up to 13+ during the day. We hope the snow holds off for another couple of weeks until we manage to change the tires!
I've been to a number of charity shops for our winter gear but apparently I'm too early as there is so much Halloween stuff in every shop there's no room for useful stuff! Houses all over are getting decorated for Halloween (Christmas type lights) it's a really big day out here. When we say we don't celebrate it we always get asked 'Don't you celebrate Christmas then?'!!!!!

Yoho in Oct getting very windy and colder

My thanks giving cupcakes.

Last week was very tiring but fun. I was working from 8-4.30 with a class of seven 3 year olds at the early learning center where I work. They certainly kept me on my toes! Harriet came with me for 2 days as it's a long weekend at the moment and even she was shattered by the end of the day. From next week I start working part time with Thursday as my day off. I've got a big market booked on 18/19th Nov called Christmas in the market so I'm baking Christmas cakes at the moment then I'll start to fill the freezer with lots of baked goodies. I'm also still practising my cupcake designs for the market. My boss at work says I can kick start my business by giving out flyers to all the parents so I can bake for their kids parties etc.

On Friday at 7.30am on our way to work Harriet and I saw a moose. He was a big bull moose stood in the middle of Hanwell road. Thankfully it was a beautiful clear morning and I saw him along way off so I could stop and watch him. He turned and stared at us then wandered off into the woods! The roads are very dangerous at night at the moment as the weather has turned cold it means moose mating season. Moose are huge creatures with little spindly legs so if you hit one on the road you have very little chance of surviving.

This weekend is thanks giving which everyone gets really excited about. I've asked many people what they do at thanks giving and most say go home and eat! We were invited to Kevin and Diannes to celebrate with them. There were lots of family and friends there and we ate a beautiful meal of Turkey, potatoes, squash, peas, carrots, gravy, stuffing, tomatoes, beetroot, apple pie, pumpkin pie and I took along my latest cupcake designs to taste. A great time was had by all.

David has been helping friends finish their haymaking and next week he's going to the cranberry bog to help with the wet harvesting of the cranberries. He spends the rest of his time on roofs installing broadband!

We're busy getting our little house winterized by putting in a bigger fire, which when lit makes the house really warm at the moment. Also we've got 3 sets of patio doors to board up before the snow comes. We've put away all patio furniture, the trampoline and we still need to bring in the jetty. Alot of the wood is cut but this needs finishing and stacking close to the door!

A friend at work has given Harriet snow boots, coat and trousers (sorry pants!) but the rest of us still need to get kitted out and so do our cars which need minimum of all season tyres but better to have snow tyres on. We are told sometimes the snow comes by end of Oct but rarely stays then but to expect it by November definately.

1st aid and beautiful autumn

not the best picture of some of the colours of autumn
fungi I found one morning

by that evening

next day, I just love this fungi

Just a quick post to keep you all up to date.
To work with children in Canada I had to get my first aid & CPR certificate! CPR was fine no blood and guts mentioned at all even broken bones, diabetes, epilepsy, strokes, heart attack no problem in theory BUT argh it got awful hot in the room when the amputation and stopping blood flow DVD was playing then the teacher took great pleasure elaborating on every detail and describing every type of cut you could possibly imagine! I survived.... just, and managed to get 97% in the exam. Thankfully the certificate lasts 3 years. I've been called into work a couple of times this week too.
David has been really busy this week, he's getting so good on roofs he helped Rich take down his chimney too!
Preparations for the cupcake business are going ok and hopefully in about a month I can trade on the local market.
Autumn is well and truly here the trees are beautiful vivid colours they look like they're on fire. We have loads of fungi growing on our horseshoe pitch, it's amazing stuff coming up really quickly a bright illuminus yellow/ green then going brown and yucky by the next day. Mornings are quite chilly but usually by the afternoon things have warmed up alot. We really notice the difference in weather between Yoho and the city. Yoho is on a hill and can be very windy in the city it's very sheltered in the valley and loads warmer. To help dry off my washing I've relented and lit our first fire tonight.
I'm working full time next week. The kids have next Thurs, Fri & Mon off for Thanksgiving weekend. Harriet & Isaac want to join a 4H group and are going to a taster session tomorrow. David is going to USA to pick up a delivery of cupcake boxes and inks which work out much cheaper over the border. But more about all that next time.
