6 weeks to go!

Emotions are up and down. One minute I'm counting down the days and minutes and getting so excited then I'm saying bye to friends and family and reading cards and memory books and it brings a lump to my throat.
Last Saturday we were invited to Megan & Jack's for tea (or so we thought) when we arrived we noticed other cars we recognised from friends at church and realised we'd been set up big style. The surprise was completed with friends and family from miles away being there too thanks to Kathryn sabotaging my facebook account! It was really great to see everyone and we were so touched that folks had travelled so far- Thanks everyone concerned.
Let's hope all those who have promised to visit us do come (when we've got our own accommodation).
I found a great website the other day advertising a shop not far from where we'll be, selling English treats like galaxy minstrels, jaffa cakes, jelly babies etc, know where I'll be shopping!
In 6 weeks we'll have landed, only 4 weeks 2 days at school...time is ticking ...fast!

Waiting!

After nearly 4 years of form filling, waiting, medicals, police checks, getting the visas, the stress of selling the house, then the blessing of it going through really quickly, moving into Mum & Dad's, waving off our belonging we are now waiting.

I'm working out my notice at school but with huge amounts to do there before I leave in 5 weeks 2 days.

We are working out how we can get to say goodbye to everyone who may want to wave us off. This is proving fun as David works 2 out of 3 weekends milking and I am still giving respite care too. We are expecting to go to Dewsbury on the weekend of 10th July so get intouch if you want to meet up there. We'll probably do stuff in Whitby sometime too, any ideas?

Must be patient waiting 7 weeks will fly by I know.

exchange rates

As part of the our visa conditions we have to take $23,000 with us to Canada so over the last few months it would be a understatement to suggest I've become obsessed with the Canadian GB (CAD/GBP)  exchange rate.

The CAD/GBP is usually around $2 to the pound but due to the banking crisis and recession it now bobbles around $1.5 to the pound. So £23,000 was around £11,500 but now its over £15,000.

Alas there's nothing I can do about is so I stopped worrying a long time ago. We're over three quarters of the way to the magic figure now so even if it the rate drops a little more it shouldn't matter too much! Having two jobs each has eventually paid off. We'll be ready for a little rest when we land.

Tuesday 8 June 2010

So we've sold our house, packed up most of our belongings (which are now on a snail route to Canada) they should arrive in approx 12 weeks.

We've booked our tickets and should fly out on the 4 th August from London Heathrow to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

For those who are interested we'll post snippets of our journey right here!
