Chalk and cheese

Both David and I went on trips with work in the last week. David spent Wednesday- Friday in New York and this was the view from his hotel.

I went yesterday and today to Campobello Island in the Bay of Fundy, this was my view from the cottage I stayed in.

On Saturday we start our journey to visit David and Sarah but before then we are expecting yet another snow storm Thursday and Friday.

43 days on......

Time is running away with me again and I was reminded yesterday that I hadn't updated the blog for 42 days! Here goes the February update.

The year started with a little uncertainty about my job, I work for a not for profit organization so things are never going to be secure. My contract has been extended till June and then it is looking like my role will change next year but nothing is certain yet.

We have been experimenting with our freezer full of Molly. Cheeks are really good slow cooked, we cured our own ham which was delicious. The piglets are still some way from slaughter and there is very little Molly left in the freezer now as we've eaten lots and sold a good amount of her.

The vet came and did an ultrasound on the sows and found they are all pregnant, since then they have all been getting ready to farrow and it's looking like a couple of them could be this week. This means we are frantically changing the pigs around, moving geese and slaughtering rabbits to make more space in preparation. Some of our chickens were ill earlier in January which meant a course of antibiotics and having to throw all their eggs away. Now with the fluctuating temperatures ranging from -33 to +8 and anything in between some of the pigs have got pneumonia and with pigs it isn't always easy getting the antibiotics into them, thankfully they all seem to be on the mend now.

David is going on a business trip to New York this week so we are rushing round like mad things getting everything ready.

Tomorrow we are due another snow storm of about 20cm, last weekend we had lots of snow which meant we were snowed in for my birthday but managed to get out to pick Harriet's friends up for her birthday. Today we were invited to Kevin and Dianne's to celebrate her sister, Karen's birthday, they celebrated mine and Harriet's too with a big potluck supper and fun games.

Harriet is busy preparing her speech for the public speaking section of her 4H club, her talk is on dog agility training.

The boys did well in their end of semester exams and are already full swing into the second semester.

David and I were asked to facilitate a parenting teens course at church. We have all the material provided and lead a discussion group after the main presentation. We have to say we highly recommend the course to anyone working with, looking after or parenting teens the material is excellent and however long we've been doing this we all still have lots to learn. It's a 5 week course and we have 2 weeks left taking us up to March break.

We are getting excited about or holiday to Michigan in March break, if not a little daunted by the 18 1/2 hour drive either end.

Present opening time at the party today.

Harriet's friend Monika gave her a vets outfit for her birthday

We went to a STU v UNB hockey match a couple of weeks ago

We have hours of fun preparing potatoes for our piggies!
