Wildlife & words

We haven't been attacked by the bears or mown down by a moose but here are some of the wildlife we have seen so far...

Lots of foxes on PEI as there are no preditors over there.

Frogs galore, we are always close to some source of water which are teaming with frogs, the biggest we've seen is one we call 'Granpa bullfrog' that lives at Yoho and is the size of 2 fists together!

Beaver who builds a dam everyday on Kevins pond which we destroy everyday so the pond doesn't flood and kill the surrounding trees. Also a heron which patiently sits at the side of the same pond daily.

Red and grey squirrels. There's a cheeky red squirrel in Rich & Jens garden when we were painting the cupboard doors outside it ran across them and stole a biscuit from a box! It also came into their kitchen today.

Woodpeckers, beautiful little birds in the trees at Rich & Jens.

Deer walking through the surrounding fields with its albino baby following.

Chipmunks tiny little things that just sit and watch you when you're sat outside.

We've seen lots of skunks and porkipines but thankfully only as roadkill so far, boy do they stink even when dead!

The difference in the English and Canadian language is a source of great entertainment, it's the blank look you sometimes get that tells you your not being understood. Here are some of the obvious differences which we'll easily pick up!

boot=trunk

rubbish=garbage

trousers=pants

crisps=chips

office=den

biscuit=cookie

see if you can find out what this is?

A teeter-totter

Language is so funny

  1. I have no idea!
    Don't like the sound of frogs - there was one in our garden the other day which made me jump!
    Take a look at our blog for pics of me holding a snake though - a first for me! http://heapshappenings-rach.blogspot.com/

  2. Hi Everyone. We know what a teeter-totter is, Megan Googled it, but I'd already guessed see-saw - am I right?! Sounds like you're having a great time, I bet Isaac, Joshua and Harriet can't wait to start getting up so early for school!

    We were on holiday last week in Southwold (Suffolk) with my family and now it's Bank Holiday so lie-in tomorrow (well, it would be if it wasn't for the crying baby and shouting toddler!). Saw Tash at church this morning - she's fine!

    Love from Jack, Megan, Edmund (we'll get him on Skype soon - he can almost hold a conversation on certain topics!) and Florence.
